GarageBand

I finally bought a gadget that allows me to input audio to my Mac Mini. It's pretty neat to be able to plug my bass in and fiddle around with recording things on my computer. Problem, tho, is the sound effects. There's a half-second delay in the playback. So I'm looking for some Mac software that only does audio sound effects. No recording or editing or anything. Just sound effects. If anyone out there knows of such an app then please let me know.
